I believe that whilst we need to select teachers carefully, teachers in mature education systems over-burdened. Add to this a lack of resourcing, government policies that don’t favour teachers and poor social motivation, then the job becomes extremely difficult.

I’m all in favour of raising the status of teachers, beginning with simplifying the bureaucracy and trusting the professionals at the chalkface.
